The ice cathédrale at Glacier 3000 - CURRENTLY CLOSED

Description

A all-natural attraction becomes available at Glacier 3000: the Ice Cathedral.

This ice cave delights lovers of atypical landscapes and photos, who can access it easily, but under their own responsibility. Also known as "the Mill", the natural ice cave at Glacier 3000 was created as a result of a syphon effect. In spring and summer, this cavity fills up with water. The melting ice and the accumulation of residues block the evacuation, and thus a lake is formed. In autumn, the plug disappears, the water spins out as in a syphon (hence the name "Mill") and gives way to a cave, which is different from one year to another. This natural cave of about twenty meters long is a unique show, the lights are reflected on the ice walls and give images from another world.

Practical Information

- Access under your own responsibility - The cave can be reached on foot in 15 minutes from the bottom of the Ice Express chairlift. - A signposted path takes you there in complete safety. - Its location is indicated, but access is the responsibility of each individual. The ground is made of ice, so please be careful. - During the winter, guaranteed access depends on the weather and snow accumulation in front of the cave entrance.
