The Asian hornet probably arrived in Switzerland in 2017 and has since spread rapidly across the country. Today, nearly a hundred sightings are reported every day on the dedicated national platform.
This rapid spread raises many questions: will we see an invasion with more than 15 nests per square kilometre, or will we be able to limit its expansion? The Asian hornet has almost unlimited colonisation potential, making it a major threat to biodiversity and beekeeping.
This conference will shed light on the biology of this species, the control methods currently in place, and the research projects being carried out in Switzerland. There will also be an opportunity to discuss the challenges ahead and possible courses of action.
