The Avançon and Its Gorges

The Avançon river rises in the Vallon of Nant, a protected nature reserve at the foot of the Glacier des Martinets. From this source, the river begins a wild descent that, over millennia, patiently carved the rock and shaped one of the most striking landscapes in the region. The Avançon then continues on its way to Pont-de-Nant, crosses the picturesque hamlet of Les Plans-sur-Bex and reaches Frenières, where its waters meet those of the Ivouette.
Along its entire course, the torrent offers a display of rock formations and gorges of rare beauty. Smooth walls, ochre strata, columns of water: every bend tells the quiet power of water over stone.
Between Les Plans-sur-Bex and Frenières-sur-Bex, the walls carved by the torrent have been fitted out to welcome hikers in search of full immersion in nature. A trail hugs the rock face, while a suspended footbridge offers a plunging view and lets you admire the river from every angle. Thrills guaranteed, right at water level.
