Association du Mandement de Bex
Chemin du Crétel 6
CH - 1880 Bex
During the dominion of the House of Savoy, the mandements were administrative districts that were successively taken over by the Bernese. Between 1476 and 1798, the four mandements of Aigle, Ollon, Les Ormonts and Bex formed the Chablais Vaudois. All were part of the government of Aigle.
The mandement of Bex was divided into thre fiefdoms: Bex, Gryon and Lavey-Morcles. The latter two were under the jurisdiction of the abbot of Saint-Maurice, while Bex was under that of Bern.
The association's emblem, azure with a golden lion, corresponds to the coat of arms of the Bex family.
The Mandement de Bex association took up the torch from the Vieux Bex association, which existed from 1908 to 1912, and was re-founded on 10 May 1966.
François Gillard (1937-2023), grandson of one of the members of the former association, decided with Freddy Gerber and Henri Turel to re-establish the society, which today consists of: the Association du Vieux Bex, the Association du Vieux Gryon and the Association du Vieux Lavey-Morcles.
Its main objectives are to promote historical research, preserve and enhance the region's iconic buildings and sites, collect antique objects of regional value and spread historical knowledge, particularly through its annual review.
