Dating back to the 19th century, Clos du Rocher has its roots in land that was once covered with rocks and scrub. In 1830, this land was converted into vineyard terraces, and the building, along with the cellars that are still in use today, was constructed in 1836.
The estate has belonged to the Obrist family since 1918. Facing south, backed by rock and sheltered from cool winds, Clos du Rocher sits on gravelly, perfectly drained soil. Its 10 hectares of terraced vines, in a single block, are mainly planted with Chasselas (96%), accompanied by Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The estate is renowned for its exceptional Chasselas, the Clos du Rocher Grand Cru, aged in oak casks in its historic cellars. Since 2009, red grape varieties have also been used to produce the Clos du Rocher Rouge Grand Cru, a unique blend that completes the estate's prestigious range.
The vines are rigorously tended by Martin Suardet, who succeeded his father Jean-Daniel, honoured at the 2019 Fête des Vignerons. Vinification is carried out by oenologist Léonard Pfister, guaranteeing wines of character that faithfully reflect this unique terroir.
Combining heritage, expertise and passion, Clos du Rocher offers refined wines that embody the history and identity of this exceptional place.
