Exhibition at Château de la Roche - A glimpse into an era

On the one hand, Laura Chaplin's view of her grandfather, Charlie Chaplin, and, through him, of an era, a memory, a legacy. On the other hand, Francis Dayer draws inspiration from his ancestry to create a new artistic language based on ampelography. "If history serves any purpose, it is to open our eyes! " This quote embodies the heart of these two artists' work.

Laura Chaplin has forged her own artistic path. She grew up in her grandfather's manor house, now a museum. Three main themes run through her work: female silhouettes, horses and... her famous grandfather. Her style oscillates between figurative and pop art, with a touch of surrealism.

Francis Dayer paints with wine made from indigenous red grape varieties. His themes, related to the world of wine, exploit the chromatic character of our nectars and develop a new art, that of appreciating their colour. This is the adventure to which Francis Dayer, alias ‘Ampelosaurus Vitis Pictor’, Laura Chaplin's guest, invites you. Yesterday, at the pub, we used to say, ‘wine should be drunk’ in moderation... Today, we would say, ‘wine should be seen’ with delight.
