Description

Hiking through the Choucas to Pointe de Cray

Your starting point is the tourist office in Château-d'Œx. From there, head for the most impressive terrace in the region: the terrace of the Cabane des Choucas! Then follow in the footsteps of the Choucas trail where the path becomes steeper. Climb the ladders and walk along the rock faces before arriving at the famous Cabane des Choucas. This is the ideal place to get your strength back for the rest of the route. From the terrace you can admire the Gummfluh mountain range. Continue on to the pastures of the Merils. In summer, the sheep love to enjoy the fresh mountain grass here before heading back down to the village. But be careful, this flock is guarded by guard dogs. The animals are divided into 5 different enclosures, the path to the Pointe de Cray is mostly safe. Once you reach the Cray Dessus mountain pasture, the last climb is ahead of you! The summit of the Pointe de Cray offers a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, the Lac du Vernex and the Fribourg region. The descent is then made through the pastures on the heights of Rossinière before bringing you back to the centre of the village of Château-d'Œx.
