Description

This route follows one of the stages of the Tour des Alpes vaudoises. The climb above the village of Leysin through forests and pastures is charming. The crossing in the direction of the Col des Mosses offers a magnificent panorama.

From Feydey train station go up to the junction with Rue du Commerce (paved road). Take a left and continue going up until you see the Feydey church on your right. Take the path which lies above the church and which continues through forest and fields until it meets up with the tarmac road that climbs up to Les Fers (about 30 minutes). Follow this road and when you come to the Plans junction, take the rough high road which leads you to Les Fers restaurant. The gradient rises steadily and presents a splendid view of the mountain peaks. A well earned rest to take in this magnificent vista is essential at this stage ! From Restaurant Les Fers, climb up towards the Tour de Famelon. The path rises steeply to the crossing (1900m.), then goes on in the direction of the Pierre du Moëllé ; the path hugs the hillside and goes under the Tour de Famelon. Be careful here as there could still be patches of snow on the crossing up to the Pierre du Moëllé. As you progress further along the hike, you will soon come upon the spectacular panorama overlooking Lake Hongrin and its beautiful rock formations. At the Pierre du Moëllé restaurant, treat yourself to a well-earned rest before attempting to go across to Les Mosses. Take the tarmac road going downhill in the direction of "Col des Mosses" for 10 minutes, then at the first bend, take a left and continue along the path which goes by the Mont d’Or. After around 30 minutes, the path climbs steeply for another 40 minutes, direction Larzey. The Larzey crossing gives you the chance to admire the sheer beauty of the area and the richness of its flora. Exiting the forest, climb gently and then go through the fields. From there you can gaze upon Pic Chaussy as you get within reach of Col des Mosses.
