Description

The Mittelberg Pass between the Pays-d'Enhaut and the Saanenland is an undiscovered corner of paradise! With this suggested 65km route, discover the landscapes and the calm of this place where nature is king.

Your starting and finishing point is the village of Rougemont. Saddle up and ride through the streets with the typical chalets for which this mountain village is famous. After crossing the Vanel border, take a look at the signs for the localities. These now have Swiss-German names. The first part of the route takes you into the Saanenland and Simmental regions of Bern. As soon as you arrive in Boltigen, it's time to leave the Simmental road and start the climb over the Jaun Pass. During the zigzagging ascent, take a break to rest your legs and admire the view of these Bernese peaks. Enjoy the descent from the top of the pass to the village of Jaun. Here you leave the busy road and take the small asphalt mountain paths towards the Mittelberg. On the climb from the hamlet of Abländschen to the Mittelberg, the cows are your only spectators. All around you is unspoilt nature and imposing peaks. Do you recognise the mountain range on your right? It is the famous Gastlosen. Enjoy the nature and continue your tour. The descent from the top of the pass brings you to your destination: Rougemont. The route runs along the Fenils brook, which marks the natural border between the cantons of Vaud and Bern. During your descent, have fun calculating the number of times you change canton.
