Description

Bretaye-Encrène-Col de la Croix-Les Diablerets

This tour starting in Bretaye lets you explore the flowers that grow along the region's trails. With the imposing Diablerets massif as a backdrop, your hike takes you through Conche and across the Col d'Encrène. On the way down to the village of Les Diablerets, you cross pastures and pass by an Alpine farm. NB: Resist the temptation to pick wildflowers and respect any wildlife that may live in the area. Keep your distance if you come across mother cows and their calves. Besides the undeniable beauty of the landscape, you can marvel at some of the flower varieties that are native to the western Alps, such as Yellow Bellflower and Ascending Lousewort. Once arrived at Col de la Croix, take the opportunity to visit the gypsum pyramids, a geological curiosity formed by erosion. Their white tips are covered with Creeping Gypsum and Alpine Bearberry. Starting in June, hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers can discover botanical treasures. With the free Flower Walks app, explore a wide variety of species and educate yourself while taking in the spectacular views. This dynamic and fun app allows users to interact with plants in the field and obtain helpful information for better identification. The plants can be captured, imported into a photo gallery and displayed on your phone screen using the GPS feature. This trail is the work of the regional non-profit association "Alpes Vivantes", which manages projects to enhance the nature of the Vaud Alps. The trail was created with the aim of highlighting the natural, landscape and historical heritage of our region.
