Snowpark shaper
Interview with Benjamin Ravanel in Leysin Snowpark.
Founder of the Ravach Parks company, Benjamin Ravanel specialises in the creation of snowparks in ski areas.
Originally from the Chamonix region, he started out driving ratracks before specialising in the construction of snowparks in the early 2000s. His speciality: the construction of half pipes.
At the Leysin snowpark, 7 specialists take turns to offer a perfect snowpark in all circumstances. During the day, 2 shapers are on site to maintain the snowpark according to the sun and the wear and tear caused by the users. A few shovels or rakes, a box to put back in place ... they make sure that everything is perfect!
As soon as the slopes close, the snow groomers enter the slopes and work most of the night to shape the snowpark. The finishing touches are made with a chainsaw, shovel or rope: precision work that requires know-how and mastery.
The Leysin Snowpark offers different levels of difficulty from beginners to experienced or professional riders.
Did you know that in 2020, the Leysin Snowpark was chosen as the venue for the freestyle competitions of the Youth Olympic Games.
Any advice on how to do this job?
You need to be passionate about the mountains, the snow and the desire to ride. Be punctual, have a smile on your face... and every day you work in an incredible office.
