Mountain bar keeper

Andreas Henchoz tells us about the winters he spends at the Rubloz mountain bar.

Manager of the Rubloz mountain bar, Andreas Henchoz spends his winters tempting skiers with his dishes.

Originally from Château-d'Œx, Andreas took over the management of the mountain bar with a colleague 15 years ago. Totally new to the profession, the two companions had to learn as they went along.

The adventure began unexpectedly during a birthday party when a chimney sweep and a firefighter thought they could take over the mountain bar which was then available.

The working conditions are those of an isolated mountain chalet on the ski slopes without much comfort. This requires a great sense of craftsmanship, skill and a good resistance to the cold.

The love of the profession and work is essential, according to Andreas, to have fun and to stay a whole winter season at the service of the customers of his mountain bar.

In addition, he never grows tired of the beauty of the region, the spectacular views of the mountains and of course skiing in this wonderful area.

Did you know? The bar owes its name to the mountain, the Rübli, which can be seen just behind the establishment.

Tip for doing this job? You have to want to work, be patient, like being in the cold of winter and enjoy DIY.

The Videmanette ski area

The Rubloz mountain bar is located on the heights of Rougemont on the Videmanette slopes. The gondola of the same name takes you to more than 2,100 m above sea level. From this advantage point, the view of the Bernese peaks is spectacular.

The 7-km track, with a descent of more than 1,000 metres, gives you the feeling of an endless slide.

The Rubloz mountain bar is on your descent. Take a break for a convivial moment around a fondue or an invigorating dish.
