The Cheese Path

Description

Combining a family hike, interesting accommodation and culinary learning, the cheese trails are an ideal getaway. Each of the trails will take you to an alpine chalet at an altitude of around 1500m in the heart of the pastures dominating the Pays-d’Enhaut.

Depending on the route you take, the hike will last around two to four hours (there and back). The artisanal manufacturing process is the result of many years of experience passed down through the generations. Each year between May and October, over 70 farming families patiently transform the milk from their cows into delicious cheese, through great effort. The milk is poured into huge copper cauldrons which are always heated by wood fires, and then stirred by hand. On cheese trail getaways you can watch this key stage in the production of the cheese. Spending a night in an alpine hut surrounded by nature, isolated from the world and with the sound of cow bells to send you to sleep, is another highlight of a cheese trail getaway. You will also sleep on a bed of straw. The highlight of the evening will be a meal prepared by your host in the best mountain tradition. You can eat in peace by the side of the fire while contemplating the world.
