Hemlock Smith is the project of Lausanne-based singer, songwriter and composer Michael Frei.
Since 2002, surrounded by a collective of varying numbers, he has brought the house down at Paléo, played at Label Suisse, Metropop and virtually all the venues in French-speaking Switzerland. Year after year, he has garnered praise and support from national and international audiences and critics alike for his delicate, original songwriting. Recorded live with a crack quintet, 'Small Change World', the band's 7th album, will be a landmark in the music landscape of French-speaking Switzerland.
Comprising 12 classy, peppy, varied and rhythmic pop firebrands, tested and refined over two years, this body of dynamic songs with a sharp melancholy is rooted in rock, folk, rhythm'n'blues, funk and ska. Hemlock Smith, regulars on the scene, will be delighted to set the CinEden stage alight (symbolically!).
