Exhibition of paintings at the Hôtel de Rougemont
Chris Calvet is a painter and photographer based in Paris, France, whose work has been exhibited internationally in Italy, South Korea, China, Switzerland, Turkey, the United States and elsewhere. His artistic research is an introspective, meditative quest that draws on ancestral Chinese and Taoist wisdom, as well as the poetry of language. The calligraphic compositions in the SIGNE series translate universal concepts linked to the spiritual and natural world. "Through my artistic quest, I wish to pay humble homage to the age-old art of Chinese calligraphy with an innovative, contemporary approach." Seeking a human presence in his works, Chris Calvet has combined calligraphy with expressive bodies for his SIGNE art series. Signs have always been an expression of our humanity, from primitive graphic frescoes onwards, reflecting the artist's ability to retranscribe his inner essence through the essential gesture. For artist Chris Calvet, the resonance between body shapes and calligraphic lines symbolizes the inextricable link between Nature and Humanity. His works are therefore timeless and universal, acting as a bridge a bridge between the Western world and Asia. On the occasion of his exhibition at the Hôtel de Rougemont, the artist is exhibiting for the first time his new artistic research on paper ALLEGORIE, alongside a selection of photographs from the SIGNE series. The ALLEGORIE series is a visual voyage into infinity. In each painting, the viewer can perceive different landscapes and forms, astral bodies, fragments of the self, through a mesmerizing meditative experience. Each contemplation is a discovery of a new world. With ALLEGORIE, the artist invites viewers to let their unconscious guide them as they discover the nuanced messages on canvas, like a meditation. Abstraction takes shape in the viewer's eyes. Stéphan Brisart, local artist from Broc "Having arrived in Switzerland in 2005 from the flat country, the mountains were a revelation to me! When I go for a walk, I'm particularly impressed by their hitherto unknown dimensions. My drawings are an extension of my professional career, which has always involved images in graphic design, architecture, printing and medical imaging. This 'pale reflection' is my humble tribute to the wonders of nature that surround us".
