This terroir is above all characterised by its high gypsum content and diverse geological composition.
- Verschiez, in the west of the appellation, enjoys a climate with Mediterranean influences, clearly noticeable along the vineyard trail.
- On the opposite side, the slope of Antagnes is based on soft saline rock: a limestone formed 230 million years ago, veined with gypsum bands originating from prehistoric lagoons. This soil is unique in the canton.
- Gypsum also marks the vineyards of La Roche and Sus-Village, as well as the central area of Ollon, the very heart of the vineyard.
- Finally, in the south, the hill of St-Triphon stands out with its vineyard rooted in a block of hard limestone, separated from the mountain.
