Nestled in the heart of the Alpes Vaudoises, Villars is a favourite winter destination for families. Winter here means discoveries, laughter, and shared moments. With a variety of accessible activities, children become little explorers, whether on skis, in the snow, or enjoying a hot chocolate. A destination where families can find adventure, comfort, and the magic of the mountains.
We have selected 9 family-friendly activities for you to enjoy this winter in Villars, along with practical tips to make the most of each experience.
For many, the first mountain memories are linked to their first turns on skis. In Villars, snow gardens are specially designed for young children and beginners, allowing them to discover skiing gradually and playfully. Supervised by attentive instructors, children gain confidence while having fun, before moving on to slopes suited to their level. The highlight of the week? The medal ceremony and sparkling eyes full of pride.
Family tip: Be sure to book lessons in advance with the Villars Ski School or the Swiss Ski School Villars.
In Villars, a free-access area is available on the Palace slope (behind the station) with a conveyor belt lift — an ideal place to start.

Guaranteed laughter at the Villars Fun Park, where families can enjoy a dedicated sledging area. Designed for young children, the slopes offer an experience accessible to everyone — from little adventurers to daring older siblings. Here, it’s not about performance, but about sharing the simple joy of sliding.
Family tip: dress the children warmly and make sure they wear a helmet so everyone can have fun safely.

When the weather turns unpredictable, the Villars ice rink steps in. In a cheerful atmosphere, families lace up their skates and glide to the rhythm of the music. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skater, the experience is always magical — especially for children discovering the joys of the ice.
Family tip: Skate rental is available on-site, as well as skating aids to help little ones find their balance and have fun safely. As the rink is covered, this activity is perfect whatever the weather.

Fancy a change of scenery? Head to the swimming pool at the Sports Centre. Warm and spacious, it’s the perfect place for children to burn off energy after a snowy day outdoors. The fun pool allows younger swimmers to play safely in an adapted space, while older kids can challenge themselves on the Wibit obstacle course and test their balance.
Family tip: While the children have fun under Dad’s supervision, Mum can slip away for a relaxing moment in the wellness area of the Bains de Villars (reserved for ages 16+), with saunas, steam rooms and a heated outdoor pool.

After the effort comes the comfort. Nothing evokes winter in the mountains better than a steaming hot chocolate enjoyed in a cosy tearoom while snowflakes blanket the rooftops of Villars. A precious moment of pause and togetherness to share as a family.
Family tip: Try the Choco Villou available in Villars’ partner shops. The offer: a delicious hot chocolate* (with or without a snack) and a surprise gift featuring Villou, the mascot, to take home! (*apple punch at Ehhh...Salut!)

Beloved by children, Villou invites families to take part in a life-sized treasure hunt. Equipped with a game booklet, little explorers wander through the resort to solve riddles. A fun activity that combines adventure, thinking skills, and discovering the village.
Family tip: Parents and children have great fun together during this treasure hunt. Don’t forget to stop by the Tourist Office once you’ve answered all the questions — a surprise awaits you!
Two other treasure hunts are also available.
For a full immersion in nature, the Lakes Circuit in Bretaye is an ideal route. Accessible to families, it offers the chance to discover magnificent winter panoramas. With snowshoes on, children marvel at the snowy landscapes and learn to observe the mountains from a new perspective.
Family tip: The ride up on the cogwheel train is always a delight for children. Why not plan a little hot chocolate break in Bretaye before heading back down to keep everyone motivated?

In the evening, the mountain lights up with torchlight descents. The Swiss Ski School of Villars organises several torchlight descents on Fridays during the school holidays. After a meal at Bretaye 1808, skiers follow one another down the slopes, illuminating the night and delighting both children and adults. A unique moment to share, perfectly capping off a winter’s day.
Family tip: Children can take part as long as they can turn and stop independently.

There’s no age limit for having fun in the snow. An impromptu snowball fight remains one of the most authentic winter experiences. All you need is a good pair of gloves, plenty of energy, a bit of fair play, and lots of good humour.
