On this Sunday afternoon, I took part in a technical cycling workshop run by Cycling Heidi. For three hours, guided by Lillie, our certified Swiss Cycling coach, we explored the fundamentals of cycling in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
The aim of the workshop: to develop the right reflexes to ride more confidently – whether in a group, going downhill, or simply to feel more comfortable on your bike. Mission accomplished!
We met in a small group at Bex train station, the starting point of this afternoon of discovery. We headed to a quiet spot near a school to begin the session in complete safety.
The first (and surprising) step: a mental visualisation exercise. Lillie encouraged us to recognise the role our brain plays in how we perceive difficulty. A key moment to understand that our fears are often irrational – and that with the right tools, they can be overcome.
Then came the practical exercises:
Lillie shared plenty of tips in a clear and educational way – from hand placement on the handlebars to grip control and reading the environment.

The rain made an appearance, but didn’t spoil a thing: we took a coffee break in a nearby bakery. A perfect moment to share how we were feeling, revisit the questionnaire we had filled in the day before (used to tailor the workshop to our needs), and exchange experiences without judgement.
The sky cleared up, and we set off again towards La Pelouse, along quiet paths. Time to put the first part of the workshop into practice:
Everyone progressed at their own pace, while receiving personalised guidance. We also discussed our fears about sharing the road with cars, and learned the right habits to stay safe and ride with confidence.

This cycling workshop with Cycling Heidi is a great opportunity to improve, better understand how your body moves on a bike, and rebuild confidence – especially if certain fears (like cornering, descents or traffic) have been holding you back.
A big thank you to Lillie for her availability, passion and professionalism.
Now it’s time to head off… by bike, of course!
