What a joy it is to explore the work of singer-songwriter Gilles, who skilfully blended Parisian satire with the spirit of the Vaud region. His songs, still hummed by older generations, are being rediscovered by young people for their modernity.
Gilles paved the way for a generation of socially conscious songwriters such as Brel and Brassens. Both Parisian and Vaudois, satirical and traditional, he was a tireless defender of human values. Inherited from the Parisian tradition, his songs address love, denounce war, greed and the predatory desires of progress for a more just world.
Despite difficult times, his lyrics remain modern and timeless, inviting emotion from our shared and intimate essentials. Through their poetry and subtlety, they question, move and act as little ‘drops of freshness’ in the heavy heat of today's world.
