Here, death plays the leading role. Williams Collins was murdered in the toilets at Manchester Station on 8 April between 10:10 and 10:20 a.m. His father Alan is distraught, especially as Bob, his other son, is mentally challenged. Alan, who is confined to his wheelchair, is worried because a neighbour, Streiger, wants to buy the house to turn it into a hotel. Streiger arrives just then and, as he reveals that he was at the station at the time of the crime, the inspector questions him and Rachel, Alan's second wife, who was also at the station. The arrival of Scott Riedley, a former friend of William's, who has come at his invitation with his wife Audrey, may seem suspicious.
Inspector Barnes investigates a family where everyone seems to have something to hide. It must be said that many of them wanted William dead! Ten characters clash, seek each other out and repel each other in the twists and turns of a plot intertwining hatred, seduction, anxiety and emotion. All served up with black humour in the purest English tradition. And when you know how skilled the author is at writing this genre, you can be sure that The Manchester Mist is likely to send a delicious chill down the spine of more than one viewer......
But who dared to commit this sordid murder? The atmosphere is heavy, the characters very dark and the ending completely unexpected...
The viewer is in for more surprises.
